May 16 , 2008 - Archdiocese of Boston Begins Search For New Cabinet Secretary For Faith Formation & Evangelization

The Archdiocese of Boston seeks qualified candidates for the position of Secretary for Faith Formation & Evangelization to energize, innovate and coordinate the various ways that the Archdiocese passes on the Catholic Faith through its parishes, schools and agencies. Secretary will oversee ministries including evangelization, youth and young adults, religious education, campus and health care ministry, marriage ministries, and a number of outreach initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Noteworthy academic and practical experience in Faith Formation and Evangelization (Master's degree or above required, preferably in Theology);
  • Significant management experience in a large, complex organization made up of multiple constituencies; and
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, particularly in developing new approaches and inspiring others to adopt them.

S/he will report directly to the Vicar General & Moderator of the Curia as a key member of Cardinal Sean's Cabinet. S/he will interact regularly with the Archdiocese's pastors, professional lay ministers, catechists, and agency directors to help build new and engaging approaches to the ways in which we pass on the Catholic Faith.

Search Committee: At Cardinal Seán O'Malley's request, The Very Reverend Richard J. Mehm, VF, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden, will chair the search committee. The other two members will be Scot Landry (Cabinet Secretary for Institutional Advancement) and Sr. Mary Johnson, S.N.D. (Professor of Sociology and Religious Studies and Chair, Department of Sociology at Emmanuel College).
