June 11, 2008 - Apostolic Signatura Renders Decisions On Eight Parish Appeals
Brighton, MA -- The Archdiocese of Boston has been informed that the Apostolic Signatura has issued decisions regarding eight parishes whose closings were appealed by parishioners. The Archdiocese is currently in the process of reviewing the decisions, wherein the Signatura upholds the Congregation for the Clergy's rulings issued in 2006, which affirm the Archbishop having closed the following parishes in 2004:
- Our Lady of Lourdes (Revere)
- Saint Anselm (Sudbury)
- Infant Jesus-Saint Lawrence (Brookline)
- Star of the Sea (Quincy)
- Saint Michael Polish (Lynn)
- Saint Jeremiah (Framingham)
- Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (Scituate)
- Saint James the Great (Wellesley)
We recognize that the process of closing a parish and transitioning to a new setting is very challenging for all who are involved. In the Archdiocese of Boston, as in many other places, the connection to our familiar place of worship can be very strong. Going forward, we continue to hope and pray that through productive dialogue and mutual respect we can work together to strengthen the Church, carry out the mission given us by Christ, and be His witnesses in the world.
