When Targeting a Group

  • Make A Plea Over The Pulpit
  • Develop A Snappy Bulletin Appeal
  • Talk To Different Standing Parish Groups
  • Put An Appeal In The Parish Newsletter
  • Hold A "Sign-up" Sunday After The Needs Have Been Explained Over A Period Of A Few Weeks
  • Create A "Wall Of Opportunity" Where Needs Are Posted
  • Include Information About Volunteer Needs At A Newcomer's Welcoming Dinner
  • Hold A "Ministry Sunday" - Produce A Simple Video Of The Parish Ministries In Action And Show It To Parishioners Followed By a Ministry Fair Where People Can Ask Questions Of Those Currently Involved In The Ministry
  • Have A Hospitality Weekend To Tell Parishioners About Existing NeedsUse The Parish Handbook To Inform Parishioners About Needs

When Targeting Individuals:

  • Do One-on-One Asking
  • Ask A Current Volunteer To "Tap" Another Volunteer
  • Get To Know The Skills Of Those In The Parish
  • Ask For Volunteers By A Particular Skill
  • Find Out People's Skills When Making An Initial Home Visit
  • Include A Place On The Parish Census For Listing Skills and Interests
  • Develop A "Parish Skills Bank" Where People Register Their Skills
  • Increase The Number Of Volunteers By Having Standing Committee Members Complete Project Work With Sub-committee Members Who Do Not Serve On The Standing Committee
  • Have A Notebook With Role Descriptions of Available Volunteer Opportunities Accessible To Parishioners
